today's art adventure

  ☆ hello ! ☆

I have this nice watercolor paper that's really thicc and I loveee drawing on it but sometimes I go a little overboard and make a bunch of unfinished drawings that I dont like. then I feel like I wasted the nice paper! and that is not a good feeling. 

so. today I took a stack of unfinished drawings and drawings I didnt like and decided I was gonna paint OVER them since its nice thick paper ! 

I wanted to use acrylic paint mixed with modpodge because I previously discovered that modpodged paper is a really nice surface for acrylic markers! and im kind of in an acrylic marker chapter at the moment. it's all ive been doing. 

so. are you excited? im so excited.

first I wanna show you the Stack of unfinished and unliked drawings I have. this is crazy.

so most of them are just one idea I kept redrawing (I was trying to make a good reference of an original character but I couldn't get it right so I kept redoing it lol)
so I sorted this stack into three categories: 
1. salvageable line art I might color at some point with watercolors (so I won't paint over these ones)
2. pieces of blank paper I cut off from unwanted drawings (using my trusty guillotine pictured below)
3. drawings I will paint over.


so here's all the paint-overable art spread out. as you can see, it really is a bunch of redos of that one drawing plus a couple others. and one paper with some coffee spots on it. 

now here's the paint I'm using. I literally grabbed the first four colors I found. that's my favorite method to picking a color palette tbh. plus modpodge.


I quickly realized mixing modpodge with my cheap acrylic craft paint would make it hard to cover the black lines on the paper. but I persisted. I REALLY layered it on.

I added way too much paint to this green one so I just smashed another one of the unwanted drawings onto it to make a sort of monotype print situation. and to remove some of the paint so it didnt take 4 days to dry. 
I really liked the resulting texture!

so now my desk looks like a Hot Mess
 
one moka pot coffee later, the paint is still a little wet so I will check back in.

☆ some other things ☆
im currently trying to build up a big portfolio of ZINES! because I wanna go to zine fests. I have a bunch of ideas!!! more updates on this soon.

sticker paper

 my roommate is in grad school and she printed something on sticker paper by accident. she gave me it back to use for art rzns.....so here's what I did with it. I honestly was kind of intimidated by the idea of starting, because my idea was to make a big fun design and cut it up into little stickers and send them to my pen pals but. I didnt wanna mess it up* *the mind killer so I added some little dudes because thats been what I do when im stuck lately got stuck again so I turned it upside down. this helped. it abstracted the words a little bit more, looking at them upside-down and kinda gave me permission to stray from the faces I had previously drawn. I wasn't rly feeling paint pens. I wanted to cover more space. so I poured some acrylic paint on it and spread it out with a sponge brush (the least used of my brushes!) it was too wet to work on, so I did some laundry & came back to it!  oh. it got all buckled. guess I'll tape it down. ah yes. now I had to break the ice...

india ink in empty paint pens

  hello !  my partner got me these empty paint markers years ago. I filled 4 of them with acrylic paint + water and I liked them! but I kinda forgot about them for a while. after finding them again, 3 years later, I had the idea 💡 to put india ink in them!  I added a tiny bit of ink to each the empty ones, and filled the rest of one of them with water. so I have a gray and a black ink marker! so I tested them out ! this page is just the gray one. I was instantly Shook how fun it was. the lines were easier to control but it still Looked like ink wash.  (this is the ink I used btw) so I used the gray one on random lil line art drawings in my sketchbook!!! I really like the super dark gray and the black together. usually when I tone something with gray I choose a medium or lighter gray the dark gray shadows kinda make it look like really harsh lighting   I even did some line work just in the gray marker. I feel like these would be great for comics. this one ...
