HELLO!! A few months ago I saw this post by K. Woodman-Maynard about hosting your own artist retreat. I was like “wait. I have free will. I can do that.” so I did!!! I started planning back in march, and the retreat took place at the end of may. ten people including myself came to the retreat. it was quite successful! we planned this trip using a multitude of google forms and sheets, asking people what kinds of things they’d like to do, figuring out who was bringing what, figuring out location/time/date/etc...I think we had a total of 3 surveys and 2 spreadsheets over the planning process lol. we went with a town that was within driving distance for nearly everyone involved (one person flew in!!) and we stayed at an airbnb for a couple nights! my partner and I planned workshops, activities, and meals based on what everyone had said in the surveys. nadlie made little bundles of goodies for our guests which included a sketchbook with a hand-printed cover, so...
hi! one of my last posts here on my blog was ins & outs for 2025 so I'd like to go through them and see how I did! 2025 art ins! - how did I do? ✰ hand-writing intricate and unusual fonts I started January 2025 strong with these sticker designs ⬇️ but that's about it for this one. I do like the look of handwritten text but it just didn't show up a lot in my 2025 art. ✰ comics about the mundane and being a human YES!!! I made & released red eyed and blue , a stream of consciousness comic about vices and habits. I spent a lot of time on this comic & love how it turned out. you can read it in the oat bag issue #2 or on my substack . you can also read this interview that just came out about the comic! here's a look at some of the pages! ✰ poetry (in comics or elsewhere) I did start Writing more! I made an active effort to write down any phrases or ideas that had potential , or at least seemed like they did. I also made an eff...
my roommate is in grad school and she printed something on sticker paper by accident. she gave me it back to use for art rzns.....so here's what I did with it. I honestly was kind of intimidated by the idea of starting, because my idea was to make a big fun design and cut it up into little stickers and send them to my pen pals but. I didnt wanna mess it up* *the mind killer so I added some little dudes because thats been what I do when im stuck lately got stuck again so I turned it upside down. this helped. it abstracted the words a little bit more, looking at them upside-down and kinda gave me permission to stray from the faces I had previously drawn. I wasn't rly feeling paint pens. I wanted to cover more space. so I poured some acrylic paint on it and spread it out with a sponge brush (the least used of my brushes!) it was too wet to work on, so I did some laundry & came back to it! oh. it got all buckled. guess I'll tape it down. ah yes. now I had to break the ice...
