india ink in empty paint pens

hello !
my partner got me these empty paint markers years ago.
I filled 4 of them with acrylic paint + water and I liked them! but I kinda forgot about them for a while.
after finding them again, 3 years later, I had the idea 💡 to put india ink in them!
I added a tiny bit of ink to each the empty ones, and filled the rest of one of them with water. so I have a gray and a black ink marker!
so I tested them out ! this page is just the gray one.
I was instantly Shook how fun it was. the lines were easier to control but it still Looked like ink wash.
(this is the ink I used btw)
so I used the gray one on random lil line art drawings in my sketchbook!!!
I really like the super dark gray and the black together. usually when I tone something with gray I choose a medium or lighter gray
the dark gray shadows kinda make it look like really harsh lighting
I even did some line work just in the gray marker. I feel like these would be great for comics.
this one ⬇️ was a quick sketch in green marker that I went over with both the black and gray ink markers.
I love it .
here's another doodle with both the gray and black markers
my review: very fun!! would recommend.
my favorite type of experimental art-making is finding unique tools & this really was That
I ordered 6 more of those pens and im planning on making different shades of gray!

ok question of the day, in the spirit of black and white art: do you prefer limiting your palette or not?
send me ya answers!

I think I like limiting my palette just a little sometimes. like only grabbing 5 markers and trying to make something cool with that. I don't really like working in monochrome but it can be fun sometimes.

ok thanks for reading 2 posts in one weekend :3 byeee

  1. THAT IS SUCH A GOOD IDEA!! I always want to try ink washing, but I'm intimidated. This seems like a good step to try them out!!
