fun new supplies! + some other things

 hi friends!

the other day I was walking by the easter basket stuffers section of the store & came across these bad boys

for like $4!!!

I hadn't bought art supplies in a while (ive been known to buy too many art supplies that I don't need) so I decided $4 wasn't too unreasonable for these lil markers.

I just love the color selection!!! plus, cheap water-based markers (washable markers) are so fun. and can be used for a bunch of different stuff! I will have to try styrofoam printmaking with them soon.

so I drew this lil doodle of some of my ocs walkin

im really happy with it / the markers in general!
I used them on mixed media paper and let them dry a couple minutes before layering them
I would recommend doing that, because I also tried them on thinner sketch paper and Did Not wait for each layer to dry and it made the paper all pulpy and weird.
here's another oc doodle

but wait . I also bought these while I was out:
I've wanted to try tempera paint sticks ever since I learned what they were like ~6 years ago!!! I've just never gotten around to it.
my review: they are so fun!! they were like . $7 (free, with the coupon and $5 voucher I had), so you kinda get what u pay for but they're good for what they are!
they kinda Look like oil pastels but they work very differently. they dry, which is nice. I think they're just tempera paint in a semi solid form. you use them sort of like a glue stick!
these particular paint sticks were not very opaque, but I learned thru some YouTube research that the shuttle art ones are supposed to be much more opaque. so I might have to get those
I like that they dry (pretty quickly, might I add) because im very much a sketchbook user.
you can kinda see in this ^ pic that the paint layers in a really transparent way. which I think can be good if you want that
im used to alcohol markers so I like layering transparent colors!
but lately ive also been using my acrylic paint pens a Lot. these r Totally different from those.
just to show you how transparent they were:
I had these line art drawings and I literally just went over them with an orange paint stick and the black ink didn't get covered at All. so that could be fun to play around with. it also could be annoying if you aren't used to it though.

one more thing I did with the paint sticks:
you can blend them out with water / a paintbrush if you get to it before they dry! so I did that here ^
I didn't really like it but it was just an experiment

on an unrelated note, I found an online queer crafts circle and went to it a couple times recently.
this is what I made the most recent time:
this is mostly paint pen. and assorted stickers from my collection.
as always, ive been striving for my art to be as chaotic as possible, which I feel like is apparent in this piece

anyway. no one has been able to figure out how to comment on these posts, ive been told, but im still gonna ask u a question.
what is your favorite thing to window shop for / or actually shop for, for retail therapy?
mine is obvi art supplies! usually I look for something ive never tried before, or a new black archival ink pen if I need one, or whatever color of alcohol marker im currently out of.

you can use the lil contact form <--- on my site or email me or comment on a social media post or talk to me in person or whatever to answer my lil question !!

one more thing to conclude this post.
I wanted to write (again) about the jealous curator: art for your ear because Danielle released a new episode and it made my whole day/week/month !! if you like learning about artists and their lives, their process, their work, etc. listen to this podcast. while there aren't new episodes very often, there's a lot of old episodes about really cool people who do really cool things!

anyway.
enjoy ur weekend 🌟

  1. The line drawing is so simple yet so lovely. Killing it. I think I need to hunt down these supplies to try out myself!
