manifesto

hello every1 ive been working on a Big Daunting Project lately and ive been getting very intimidated by it, even though im just doing it for fun. so I decided to make a list of Things to Remember while doing art, specifically during this project!!  these are all things I always try and remind myself but Ive never written them out all together like this, so I thought it might help to do that! I also thought I should share this in case it can help anyone else. ofc these are all my own personal "rules"/values so they might not help your process the same way they help mine. but they might 👀  MANIFESTO (or something) 1.      CHAOS: mixed media, materials exploration, try new things 2. DO IT FOR YOU NOT THEM: stop thinking about the response you'll get. are you having fun? if not, how can you? 3. PROCESS > OUTCOME: if it's not fun, it's not worth your time. you won't be happy with the results if you don't enjoy the process. 4. if it's not working, chan...

the party motif

Image
hi again! I graduated art school a full semester ago which means I miss talking about my art and im going to make a huge blog post about it. I wanna talk about my Party art. I don't really know what else to call it. when I was a senior in high school I did this installation project that I still really love. the idea was to create a celebration for my anxiety about graduating/going to college/being an adult/not being in high school anymore/etc. not only was this super fun to set up and photograph, but it also felt like the first thing I had done that looked like what I wanted my art to look like. which is so silly because I don't do installations or photography really at all anymore. but I still think it reflects my current style. I wanted to do something like ^ that project again my first year of college, but Different so I did this installation that was supposed to celebrate hyper-femininity: I used some of these photos as references for drawings and paintings but nothing rea...

sharpie monotypes

Image
hello friends!!  today I am teaching a class where we'll make abstract designs with sharpies and isopropyl alcohol. after I made my samples, I got an idea 💡  ive made monotypes with plexiglass and ink, but really all you'd need is a shiny surface and something to draw/paint with.  so I was like "wouldn't a plastic sandwich bag work??" ..... and there was only one way to find out. welcome to monotyping adventures with grace first I put a lil sheet of cardstock in a plastic sandwich bag. I did this because otherwise it'd be super flimsy and hard to work with. then, I started scribbling with sharpie on the bag (I also threw some paper behind the bag to protect my coffee table lol)  (it probably wouldve worked best if I stuck with all warm or all cool colors but. im crazy and I love crazy color schemes so....) now the fun part!! I brushed on some isopropyl alcohol, then I kinda splattered/dripped it on in big drops to make those big circular shapes!!!! I then gr...
